麦哲伦云Magellanic clouds，是银河系的两个伴星系。在北纬20°以南的地区升出地平面。它们是南天银河附近两个肉眼清晰可见的云雾状天体。大的一个在剑鱼座和山案座，约6°大小，相当于12个月球视直径；小的一个在杜鹃座，张角约2°，相当于4个月球视直径；两个云在天球上相距约20°。大小麦哲伦星云属于最近的星系之列，这使我们能周密地分析它们的成员天体，因而它们是重要的天文观测对象，也是星系天体物理资料的重要来源。
