铸造镁合金是以镁为基加入合金化元素形成的适于用铸造方法生产零部件的镁合金。按成形工艺，镁合金可分为铸造镁合金和变形镁合金，两者在成分、组织性能上存在很大差异。铸造镁合金主要用于汽车零件、机件壳罩和电气构件等；变形镁合金主要用于薄板、挤压件和锻件等。 铸造镁合金具有如下特性：结晶温度间隔大，体收缩和线收缩大，组织中的共晶体量、比热容、凝固潜热、密度以及液体压头均小，流动性低，拉裂、缩松倾向一般较铸造铝合金大得多。
