定义：中国古代建筑中建筑间距的一种处理手法，要求后栋建筑与前栋建筑的距离要足够大，使坐于后进建筑中的人通过门樘可以看到前一进的屋脊，即在阴影中的屋脊与门樘之间要看得见一条发白的天光，此做法称之为“过白”。 在建筑物之间，在门与景物之间，靠着巧妙的距离选择，使得门框、门洞如同在对近景或远景进行了剪裁、镶框处理。这被称为"窥管效应"的空间序列效果，是中国古代建筑所追求的。为此，专有"过白"一说。
