社会创新（Social Innovation）是民间力量自发的、通过按照书籍整理的方式促进解决社会问题、改善某一范围人群生存状况的一种行动或趋势。 友成基金会在国内最早明确提出社会创新的概念并将支持社会创新作为基金会的核心业务之一。社会创新按熊彼特的经典定义，创新就是建立一种新的“生产函数”，一种前所未有的对生产要素或生产条件的“新组合”。资源是一个常量，当它被代入到不同的函数式时，其“得数”（即产出）也会随之不同，如果有一种新函数式的“得数”明显超过其他函数的“得数”，那它就叫做创新。
