相关样本是指彼此的观测值之间存在一一对应关系的样本。来自两种操作方式：（1）同一组被试先后接受两种不同的处理，得到两组具有一一对应关系的数据；（2）将同质的被试（相对于实验所关心的特征而言）两两配对，各对中的两个被试随机地，或按事先安排的顺序分别接受处理 A 和 B，（例如 10 对双生子，每对之中一个人做实验 A、另一个人做实验 B）得到 A、B 两组数据。这种用配对方式得到的相关样本又称作配对样本。
