王照（1859～1933），字小航，号芦中穷士，又号水东，直隶宁河县（今属天津市）人。王照是近代拼音文字提倡者、“官话字母”方案的制订人。王照曾参与百日维新，劝康有为循序渐进，但被康有为拒绝。百日维新中，礼部主事王照应诏言事，请求堂官代递，遭到拒绝，七月十九日光绪帝愤怒之下，将怀塔布、许应骙等礼部六位堂官“即行革职”，同时又称赞王照“不畏强御，勇猛可嘉，著赏给三品顶戴，以四品京堂候补，用昭激励。
