滞育(diapause)是动物受环境条件的诱导所产生的静止状态的一种类型。它常发生于一定的发育阶段，比较稳定，不仅表现为形态发生的停顿和生理活动的降低，而且一经开始必须渡过一定阶段或经某种生理变化后才能结束。动物通过滞育及与之相似但较不稳定的休眠现象来调节生长发育和繁殖的时间，以适应所在地区的季节性变化。
