气候预测是根据过去气候的演变规律，推断未来某一时期内气候发展的可能趋势。为了减少由初始场误差和模式不完善而造成的预报误差，目前气候预测是采用多初值和多模式的集合预报方法，因而从本质上看，气候预测是一种概率预报。气候预测可以分为两类，一类采用统计方法，另一类为动力学数值预报。
