息（拼音：xī）是汉语通用规范一级字。此字始见于商代甲骨文 及商代金文，其古字形像鼻子出气，本义指气息、呼吸。战国之后的篆体加“心”旁。呼吸是有生命的象征，因此又引申为繁殖、滋生，再引申指子女。利钱是由本钱生出来的，于是引申出利息之义。由气息又可引申指消息。息又有停止之义，引申指歇息。又用于使动意义，引申为安宁。 （基本信息栏主要参考资料： ）
