There is an old Chinese saying (there always is) but this one I really like – When a storm comes, some build walls, but others build windmills.

Because the farmhand did his work loyally and faithfully when the skies were clear, he was prepared for storm when it broke. So when the wind blew, he was not afraid. He could sleep in peace.
