《天论》为儒家学说，作者是荀子。战国时期在中国思想史上是一个群星璀璨的时代，诸子的思想犹如划破夜空的闪电一样耀眼夺目，但那个时代社会上一般人的思想与精英们所达到的高度尚有不小的差距，社会上的迷信思想还很严重。 我们从近年颇受关注的睡虎地秦简《日书》中就可以窥见当时人们多如牛毛的禁忌和繁杂的避邪驱鬼法术。作为战国时期一位杰出的思想家，荀子对于祈神求鬼以致福的禨祥之事和迷信习俗进行了深入的批判。他所著的《天论》就是最具这种思想光芒的篇章。
