外向型经济亦称“出口主导型经济”。依靠优先发展出口产品生产，积极走进国际市场，参加国际分工和国际交换来带动经济发展的一种经济类型。旨在促进出口工业的发展，在汇率、税制和信用上给予出口产品生产较多的优惠和支持。通过扩大出口，增加外汇收入，再引进国内急需的技术和设备，推动本国经济的发展。它具有较强的出口创汇能力，能在较大规模上利用外资，引进并吸收、消化国外先进技术和经营管理方法，在较大的范围内参加国际劳务合作。因而能较多地节省地区内的劳动耗费，促进地区内经济效益的提高和社会经济的发展。
