叶维廉，1937年出生于广东珠海香洲吉大村，先后毕业于台大外文系，师大英语研究所，并获爱荷华大学美学硕士及普林斯顿大学比较文学博士。叶维廉在学术上贡献最突出最具国际影响力的是东西比较文学方法的提供与发明。他根源性地质疑与结合西方新旧文学理论应用到中国文学研究上的可行性及危机，肯定中国古典美学特质，并通过中西文学模子的“互照互省”，试图寻求更合理的文学共同规律建立多方面的理论架构。著有《东西比较文学模子的运用》(1974)，《比较诗学》 (1983)等。
