劳动密集型是指单位劳动占用的资金数量较少，或资本有机构成较低的那一类型的经济活动。劳动密集型产品的成本中，活劳动消耗所占的比重较大，而物化劳动消耗(主要是指固定资产转移的部分，一般不包括作为劳动对象的原材料、燃料等的转移部分)所占的比重较小。在活劳动的消耗中，也不仅指简单的体力劳动，而且还包括复杂的、高级的、脑力的劳动消耗。那些技术装备程度较低、需大量使用劳动力从事生产的行业或企业，如大型人力土石方工程、人工运输装卸和采掘、以贵金属为原料的首饰业、高级服装业等，即均属此类。其特点是：投资较少，单位投资吸收的劳动力较多，劳动工具较简单。
