价值理性（Value Rational）也称实质理性（Substantive Rationality），即“通过有意识地对一个特定的行为—伦理的、美学的、宗教的或作任何其他阐释的——无条件的固有价值的纯粹信仰，不管是否取得成就”。也就是说，人们只赋予选定的行为以“绝对价值”，而不管它们是为了伦理的、美学的、宗教的，或者出于责任感、荣誉和忠诚等方面的目的。
