The cover lot, "AfroApparition" (see above), a paintingofa stylisedblackcouplekissing, was createdbyChrisOfili, a Briton of Nigerian origin who now lives in Trinidad.
Early works by leading artists, including David Hockney, ChrisOfili and Tracey Emin, have also been found in the collection of the Royal College of Art.
Damien Hirst's sheep in formaldehyde won in 1995, Chris Ofili's cow-dung paintings took the prize in 1998 and Tracey Emin's unmade bed made last year's shortlist.
