但以理（前622年---前530年）在出生时犹大国已岌岌可危，被巴比伦王，尼布甲尼撒二世，所俘虏的犹太人，他与另外三个犹太人被选中服待尼布甲尼撒。由于他的聪明才智，在新巴比伦帝国，扶摇直上，直至巴比伦亡国，被波斯帝国取代也都一直被重用，传说死后葬于今乌兹别克的撒马尔罕。
