The 2011 CMOCouncil report on the state of marketing found that CMOs are overwhelmed with the day-to-day demands, and in particular, are struggling to make sense of the endless volumes of data.
In 2004, I was part of research project with a professor at the Kellogg School of Management and the CMOCouncil that sought to understand what senior marketers believed to be critical for their success.
As the CMOCouncil points out in its report, the future requires a new breed of top marketer, one who has the skills, experience and leadership (and I would add, the tools) to be able to continue the advancement of the customer experience across a more complex, multi-channel landscape.
