煤自燃是煤不经点燃而自行着火的现象,是有自燃倾向性的煤在遇到空气中的氧气时,进行氧化产生的热量大于向周围环境中散失的热量,发生了热量聚集,使煤温升高达到燃点而着火的过程。煤层露头、老窿,以及煤堆,都是容易引起煤自燃的场所。煤的自燃不但浪费地下煤炭资源,而且影响煤矿生产和安全。煤自燃的原因,主要是煤与空气接触发生氧化,一方面使煤的温度升高,同时又使煤的燃点降低,因而易于引起煤的自燃。此外,煤层由于地质构造变动或因采掘而破碎,以及通风不良等,也是引起自燃的因素。
