That compares to about half a million PlayStation 3s and about 600, 000 Wiis.
Will the WiiU be able to prove appealing to that same group, many of whom now have dusty, rarely used Wiis on their shelves?

While consumers are still lining up for Wiis, reports come from around the country of unwanted PS3 boxes sitting in electronics stores for days at a time.
But over the first four years, the research firm predicts Nintendo will sell 56.7 million Wii Us, down from the 79 million Wiis the company sold in that same time period.
Kids are all but guaranteed to be able to game in any of the Carnival Kids Club or teen hangouts, where PlayStation 3s and Wiis are set up with huge libraries of free games to play with.

More good news for Nintendo comes in the wake of Black Friday, where 500, 000 more Wiis were sold, and thanks to a price cut and Super Mario World 3D, the 3DS is finally starting to pick up after a rocky start, with sales up 325%.

But that's far from enough to help Sony's console sales catch up to Nintendo, who has sold 29.6 million Wiis worldwide in the past two years -- twice the number of PS3s -- while Microsoft has sold over 20 million Xbox 360s to date.
But for Ricardian equivalence to work, individual consumers, who generally prefer watching TV talent contests to genning up on financial news, must not only be aware of the scale of government debt but must also decide to put off buying Nintendo Wiis because of expectations of tax rises.
Regardless, for gamers looking to go all out, this may not be such an awful idea (especially if they end up including Wiis), but we're not sure if this offer will last past the (admittedly scant) first wave of shipments -- but hey, it sure beats getting shot up or beat down while squandering vacation days, right?
