Bladder cancer survivor Richard Rolfe said cancer information in the General Hospital was random and patchy.
The first successful commercial crop was cultivated in Virginia in 1612 by Englishman John Rolfe.
Apple has "so much cash that it's literally forcing their hand, " Mr. Rolfe said.
Jersey's Medical Officer of Health, Dr Susan Turnbull, said she was surprised to hear of Mr Rolfe's experience.
Dr Turnbull said she was surprised Mr Rolfe was not quickly referred to the support organisation Macmillan Jersey.

"It is heartbreaking to pull the garden up and see all our hard work go to nothing, " said Mrs Rolfe.
"Feedback shows smaller households sometimes can't use the free product before its use-by date, " said Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Tesco executive director.
It said the offer came during a telephone conversation on Friday between Foreign Minister Lov Rolfe(ph) and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
David Rolfe says most investors view such trends as just good fun.
But the garden is now being pulled up after Mrs Rolfe invited friends to help themselves to plants and cuttings before the diggers move in.
"We've looked into the model and we're happy to continue supporting it on the basis that it is viable, " says Nick Rolfe, director of business development at BOC.
Mr and Mrs Rolfe, who have eight children, have been told to return the garden to rough pasture or face paying to have it gravelled by the estate owners.
Det Ch Supt Rolfe said the force had carried out an extensive investigation into incidents at the hospital and had improved how it dealt with people with learning disabilities.
The councillor also said that as the tunnel already features a memorial to a worker who died during its construction it would be right to commemorate Mrs Snell and Mr Rolfe.
Rolfe, however, says he gives some credence to the third-year phenomenon, which predicts that stocks do better during the third year of a presidential term than during the first two years of a term.
Ms Snell, 67, and Mr Rolfe, 72, went missing on 7 July but it was not until nine days later that Avon and Somerset Police alerted colleagues in Dorset that the couple had been traced to the Beaminster area.
