President Bush said he enjoyed stopping in a small village at a vegetable packing plant and seeing how indigenous farmers have been able to find new markets for their goods.
Designed after the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the new rules require schools that participate in federally funded school lunch programs to offer fruit and vegetable daily and in larger quantities than in the past, serve only fat-free or low-fat milk, and limit calories by age.
Dean Norton, president of New York's Farm Bureau and a dairy farmer in Genesee County, said fruit and vegetable growers as well as dairy farmers have been suffering from a shortage of labor.
