His brother, he says, has remained in an American military jail for 18 months.
"We don't have enough money to record things that sound contemporary, " he says, laughing.
But he says it is not clear that support for this strategy will last indefinitely.
"Even many of Obama's supporters believed that the prize was a mistake, " he says.
"With every new technology there are upsides, but there are also risks, " he says.
"This was the year that Jimi was trying everything to find the right direction, " he says.

Computerized trading, he says now, put him out of business about two years ago.
He says making the Medicare change part of the party's platform was no accident.
