通航建筑物，又称“过船建筑物”。是指为克服拦河闸、坝、急流卡口、横梁、跌坎等形成的水位集中落差,使船舶(船队或排筏)安全顺利地由下游驶向上游(或由上游驶向下游)而建筑的过船建筑物。在通航河渠上修筑水利枢纽时，为不中断航运必须有通航建筑物。现代过船建筑物应用最多的是船闸，其次是升船机。
