David Cameron, the prime minster of the U. K., said on Thursday that he wouldn't rule out the possibility of a sugar tax as a measure against the obesity crisis, the BBC reports.

Attempts to impose the tax is a matter of public debate in many countries and a measure often strongly opposed by food and beverage producers.

In most forms the tax is designed to discourage the production, importation and purchase of carbonated, uncarbonated, sports and energy drinks, with excess levels of added sugar.
