白采是江西高安人，出身于商业地主家庭。1911年从筠北小学毕业后继续刻苦自修。早年在高安女子学校任教，开始作诗习画。后毕业于上海美术专门学校，任教于上海立达学园、厦门集美学校。1924年写成著名长诗《羸疾者的爱》。这首诗歌颂为生命的尊严而献身的人，单纯、质朴而又充满力量，被朱自清誉为“这一路诗的押阵大将”。
