动作技能指通过练习巩固下来的、自动化的、完善的动作活动方式。如日常生活方面的写字、行走、骑自行车；体育运动方面的游泳、体操、打球；生产劳动方面的锯、刨、车等活动方式，都属动作技能。人的行动是由一系列动作组成的。就是简单的行走，也是腿、脚、手臂和眼等的共同活动。而骑自行车则是脚、腿和手臂的动作和整个躯体以及视觉、触觉等的联合活动。最初这些动作是不协调的、笨拙的。由于练习，实现动作的方式就巩固下来，熟练起来，某些动作就从意识中解放出来，变成自动化的动作。
