分析方法，是指实验室对样品进行分析检验的依据。其中以科学、技术、实践经验和综合成果为基础，经有关方面协商一致，由主管机构批准，以特定形式发布，作为共同遵守的准则和依据的分析方法称为标准方法，或称方法标准。标准方法在技术上并不一定是最先进的，准确度也可能不是最高的，而是在一般条件下简便易行，具有一定可靠性，经济实用的成熟方法。标准方法的内容包括方法的类别、适用范围、原理、试剂或材料、仪器或设备、分析或操作、结果的计算、允许偏差等。标准方法常作为仲裁方法，亦称权威方法。标准方法按照适用范围可以分为不同的级别：国际标准、区域标准、国家标准、行业标准、地方标准和企业标准等。土壤分析中常用到的标准方法多为国际标准、国家标准和行业标准。
