In 2009, for the first time, Chinese researchers published more papersin information technology than those in the U.S., with both countries churning out more than 100, 000 info-tech publications.
As is customary inChinese state papers, The Business Post - published by the government's Stock Exchange Executive Council - did not identify its sources in the central bank.
However, information technology papers published in scientific journals by Chinese researchers were far less likely to be referenced by other scientists than those that were published by researchers in the U.S., a sign that they are less influential and may be of lower quality.
