In cultures around the world stones play an integral role. They are worshiped, they are weapons, they are foundations of traditional painting, and in every city stones form our streets, sidewalks, buildings, and homes. However, this element in our life remains static while we constantly move in, around, and through. It is this quality in which I am most interested. These paintings are an examination of stones from different angles, physically and metaphorically, and their connection to movement and human existence. Rocks are dynamic – they are open to experience, closed from harm, they reach out to every corner of the world, and their shapes echo most basic building blocks of life. How can something so stationary, yet so essential to our existence, be without a potential vitality?
