“中水”一词是相对于上水〔给水〕、下水〔排水〕而言的。中水回用技术是指将小区居民生活废〔污〕水（沐浴、盥洗、洗衣、厨房、厕所）集中处理后，达到一定的标准回用于小区的绿化浇灌、车辆冲洗、道路冲洗、家庭坐便器冲洗等，从而达到节约用水的目的。
