许观，原名黄观，，人。父赘许，从许姓。洪武中，贡入太学。绘父母墓为图，赡拜辄泪下。二十四年，会试、廷试皆第一。累官礼部右侍郎，乃奏复姓。建文初，更官制，左、右侍中次尚书。改观右侍中，与方孝孺等并亲用。燕王举兵，观草制，讽其散军归籓，敕身谢罪，辞极诋斥。四年奉诏募兵上游，且督诸郡兵赴援。至安庆，燕王已渡江入京师，下令暴左班文职奸臣罪状，观名在第六。
