余本（1905.6—1995.1)，别名余建本，广东台山人。擅长油画、中国画。1928年考入加拿大盛尼美术学校，1931年毕业于多伦多省立安德里奥艺术学院。1935年回到香港。1956年9月举家回国定居。1957年余本的油画艺术就进入一个新阶段。他力图做一个半路出家的中国画家，通过墨画的尝试去了解民族的绘画传统，以便在油画创作上民族化有所借鉴。余本一贯辛勤的艺术劳动，获得了丰富的艺术成果，代表作品有《拉琴者》、《黄河渡口》、《万里长城》，中国画《江上卧青山》。出版有《余本画集》等。历任广东画院副院长、中国美术家协会顾问。
