Jon Jincai Zhang, Ph.D.
Dr. Zhang is Staff Petrophysical Engineer with Shell. Before joining Shell, he was Geomechanics Manager with Knowledge Systems Inc., lately Landmark, Halliburton.
Jon has been working in rock mechanics and petroleum geomechanics for more than 20 years. Jon has worldwide experience in borehole stability and pore pressure prediction. He has worked on industry projects in Untied State, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Trinidad, Guyana, Guatemala; North Sea, Norwegian Sea; Caspian Sea; Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Indonesia; Mid East; and Angola. Jon also developed a double porosity, poro-geomechanical finite element method to analyze wellbore stability in fractured and porous formations. He was Chief Geomechanics Engineer of Wellbore stability JIP project - DEA161.
He has written over 80 technical papers and a number of books. Jon is a member of the SPE, ARMA and ISRM. He was a reviewer and member of API (American Petroleum Institute) Recommended Practice. He holds a Ph.D. in petroleum and geological engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
