黄连，（拉丁学名：Coptis chinensis Franch.）别名：味连、川连、鸡爪连，属毛茛科、黄连属多年生草本植物，叶基徨，坚纸质，卵状三角形，三全裂，中央裂片卵状菱形，羽状深裂，边缘有锐锯齿，侧生裂片不等2深裂；叶柄长5-12cm。野生或栽培于海拔1000-1900m的山谷凉湿荫蔽密林中。有清热燥湿，泻火解毒之功效。其味入口极苦，有俗语云“哑巴吃黄连，有苦说不出”，即道出了其中滋味。
