鲍由，字钦止，处州龙泉人。举进士。尝从王安石学，又亲炙苏轼，故其文汪洋闳肆，诗尤高妙。徽宗召对，除工部员外郎，居无何，以不合去，责监泗州转般仓。历河东、福建路常平、广西、淮南转运判官，复召为郎。以言者罢，提点元封观。起知明州，又知海州，复奉祠。卒，年五十六。尝注杜甫诗，有文集五十卷。
