高岭石粘土又称“高岭土”，俗称“瓷土”。由含量90%以上的高岭石组成。发现于中国江西景德镇附近的“高岭”地方而得名。 一般高岭土原矿中含有少量蒙脱石、伊利石、水铝英石、石英、云母、黄铁矿、方解石、有机质等杂质。按成因可分为原生与次生高岭土二种。在中国著名产地有江西景德镇、江苏苏州及湖南南界牌、山西大同等地。
