马铃薯栽培范围遍布全世界，从北纬71°至南纬40°之间的绝大多数国家都有马铃薯栽培。栽培面积较大的国家有俄罗斯、中国、美国、荷兰、德国、加拿大等。其中，荷兰是世界上生产水平较高的国家，每年栽培面积200万亩左右，占粮食作物播种面积的36%，单产从20世纪70年代的每亩2200公斤增加到现在的3300公斤。 2019年12月，河北发布42个专项职业能力考核名录，其中包括马铃薯栽培。
