马头琴是一种两弦的弦乐器，有梯形的琴身和雕刻成马头形状的琴柄，为蒙古族人民喜爱的乐器。 马头琴是蒙古民间拉弦乐器。蒙古语称“潮尔”。琴身木制，长约一米，有两根弦，共鸣箱呈梯形，声音圆润，低回宛转，音量较弱。 相传有一牧人为怀念小马，取其腿骨为柱，头骨为筒，尾毛为弓弦，制成二弦琴，并按小马的模样雕刻了一个马头装在琴柄的顶部，因以得名。郭小川《平炉王出钢记》诗：“牧区的人们听说钢花喷，蒙古包里拉起了马头琴。”
