颞叶肿瘤的发生率在大脑半球肿瘤中居第二位，仅次于额叶肿瘤的发生率。常见肿瘤为胶质瘤，另外转移瘤等亦常在此部位发生。成年人多见。颞叶功能甚为复杂，有些部位的功能尚不完全明确。颞叶肿瘤的病程早期多无典型的临床症状。尤其肿瘤位于右侧者，多数仅表现为颅压增高症状，其他症状和体征很少出现，因此临床上亦曾称为“静区”或“哑区”。
