颚口线虫属于线形动物门（Nematoda）旋尾目（Spirurida）颚口科（Gnathostomatiidae）颚口属（Gnathostoma）。该属动物前端呈头球状，其上布满小棘，其余体表也布满小棘，体前部小棘呈鳞片状。该属的棘颚口线虫能导致颚口线虫病。2011年5月17日，上海出入境检验检疫局宣布，近期连续从印度尼西亚和菲律宾进口黄鳝中检出9批次致病颚口线虫。上海口岸已建议国家质检总局停止印度尼西亚和菲律宾对华输出黄鳝，暂停受理印度尼西亚和菲律宾输华黄鳝的检疫审批。
