结肠在腺曲转折向下固定在腹后壁左侧的一段为降结肠。降结肠下降至左髂嵴处与乙状结肠相连。 于左季肋区起自结肠左曲，沿左肾外侧缘和腰方肌的前面垂直下降，到髂嵴的水平面移行于乙状结肠。降结肠位于左腹外侧区。较升结肠距离正中线稍远，管径也较升结肠小，位置也较深，前面常被小肠袢完全遮盖。 降结肠也是腹膜间位器官，腹膜覆盖其前面及两侧，后面则无腹膜，借结缔组织连于腹后壁。因此，降结肠的位置比较固定。
降结肠（colon descendens）：自结肠左曲开始，向下沿腹后壁左侧下降至髂嵴处，移行为乙状结肠。借腹膜连于腹后壁，活动性较小。
