陆源碎屑岩是指沉积物来自大陆物理侵蚀作用，经流水、风、冰川、泥石流、重力流等搬运到沉积盆地沉积成岩。沉积过程受物理的或机械的因素控制，如流体性质 （气体、液体、固体），运动状态 （流动、波浪） 及其强度控制。碎屑岩占沉积岩总量的3/4以上。
