阔节裂头绦虫成虫主要寄生于犬科食肉动物，也可寄生于人，裂头蚴寄生于各种鱼类。阔节裂头绦虫寄生于人体小肠而引起的疾病。多见于亚寒带及温带的湖泊水区，欧洲﹑北美和亚洲的一些国家，如日本﹑朝鲜﹑菲律宾均有流行，中国东北也有少数病例报导。
林几（1924）在北京发现阔节裂头绦虫这一肠道寄生虫的人体感染者，均为我国首次报道。
