门球是在平地或草坪上，用木槌击打球穿过铁门的一种室外球类游戏，又称槌球。门球起源于法国，13世纪传入英国，17世纪传入意大利，以后传到美国。20世纪30年代传入中国，当时只在燕京大学作为游戏课内容。1948年门球在日本兴起 ，1970年开始作为老年人的活动项目推广开来。门球运动占地少，花费省，很安全，且技术简单，比赛时间短，运动量也不大，适于中老年人。
