锚索是指在吊桥中在边孔将主缆进行锚固时，要将主缆分为许多股钢束分别锚于锚锭内，这些钢束便称之为锚索。锚索是通过外端固定于坡面，另一端锚固在滑动面以内的稳定岩体中穿过边坡滑动面的预应力钢绞线，直接在滑面上产生抗滑阻力，增大抗滑摩擦阻力，使结构面处于压紧状态，以提高边坡岩体的整体性，从而从根本上改善岩体的力学性能，有效地控制岩体的位移，促使其稳定，达到整治顺层、滑坡及危岩、危石的目的。
