针镍矿是镍的硫化物矿物，成分NiS，含Ni量为5%。三方晶系。晶体呈针状，集合体为纤维放射状、毛发状，偶尔呈粒状。浅黄铜色，表面常因氧化而呈现锖色。条痕绿黑色。金属光泽。摩氏硬度为3~4。密度为4.5~5。 针镍矿主要为热液成因矿物，见于某些钴镍热液矿床中，有时见于铜镍硫化物岩浆矿床中，但它仍然是后期热液过程的产物。此外，在沉积成因镍矿床中亦常有产出。是炼镍的重要矿物原料。 针镍矿又称针硫镍矿。我国的甘肃有产出。
