道慈法师，俗名翁兴旺，1953年6月生于佛教家庭，浙江舟山普陀区人。1980年在普陀山慧济禅寺依了开大师剃度出家。 现任中国佛教协会副会长、普陀山佛教协会会长；普济寺方丈；浙江省政协九届、十届委员，舟山市人大四届、五届代表，普陀区政协四届、五届常委；浙江省佛教协会名誉会长、舟山市佛教协会副会长、普陀山佛教协会会长，普陀山普济寺方丈等职。 其为人平实，道风严谨，坚持过午不食，热心公益慈善事业。
