通知审计是指审计机关将审计的内容、审计的要求、审计的时间等告知被审计单位，在被审计单位有所准备的情况下而实施的审计。其特点是审计机关在实施审计前先向被审计单位下达审计通知书，可以使被审计单位了解审计的范围、内容和要求，在自查的基础上，做好各项准备工作，保证审计工作的顺利进行。财政财务审计、经济效益审计和经济责任审计一般采用这种方式，财经法纪审计不宜采用。 按照审计在实施前是否通知被审计单位分类， 可以分为通知审计和不通知审计。
