选择性吸收，是指植物能根据生理需求有效控制吸收养分的种类和数量的过程。土壤中养分种类和浓度存在很大差异，但植物并不按照土壤中养分的含量和比例吸收养分，而是有选择性地吸收所需要的养分离子。这是植物能在与其需求量差异很大的生长介质中正常生长的原因。离子的选择性吸收是植物自身的一种调节机制，既能满足正常生长所需，又能避免吸收过多的某种养分造成毒害。
